Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you know that I'll not be abble to post more lessons for GMC. Im too much busy with differents projects to give GMC enough dedication and I think it's better for both that I stop my work here. (well, I dont want to let 2 months gap btw lessons, and I dont find time to check the forum) It has been great to do those 6 lessons this summer and I want to thank you all for all the kind things and support you showed me. I wish you all good luck for doing what you love, playing music and guitar. Best luck to other fellow instructors as well. Thanks to Kris and all lovely people who contribute to GMC. Of course, you're all welcome to keep in touch with me if you feel to. Bye -Roo |

There are more and more players who use it, specially great for stretchings. But it is very tough to get a neat sound. Basically, Im happy if any of my fingers have the same accuracy than others. I mean even if you dont use the pinky it feels great to know you can use it. |

You don't need to erase you post Roo,it's ok. About right hand,I use almost everything I can. Alternate, sweeping etc. I just make a new lick and start to practicing it. Haven't used the same exercises a lot. My mistake, I thought first it was a general question for everybody about the pinky. But the question was asked to you, so it 's a bit rough that I come btwn even if I found the question interesting. And my question was actually about the right hand pinky because you and I like both tapping and the pinky is the tricky one, and more and more players use it now. |

Really great! Wow...sound pretty good for a gig mix. I wish I could sing and play lead guitar like you do. Isn't that tough to handle on your shoulders all the front performer work. There's also all the logistic work beside to handle before and after. God, you must be exauted at the end of evening... |

Yeah i heard about RAN guitars some weeks ago!! I don't want Luca's guitar - if i was ever to made a custom guitar i would sure love that body design but i don't want HIS model - mainly because it only has 22 frets and the cutaway is too small! I already have all of SOMEBODY's guitars i wanted - JEM and RC-7 (on the way). My next will sure be a custom one but i think by than i will be like 30 years old Im sure you'll get guitar endorsement far before that, so it will be your own design and for free or almost Though, tastes change over the years. When I was a young shredder, I hated the big body jazz guitars style. Today, I think they look pretty Ok and they really sound awesome. The only guitars I still wouldn't see myself playing are the Gibson FlyingV. I assume if you love them they might be great, but not for me I love Strato's look but I can't play them (same for lesPaul), it feels to weird ..strange because when I pick a Telecaster, my fingers really fly, I feel like a bird. But I wouldn't buy one because they are too expensive for 21 frets maple neck with only 2 little pickups that must be replace anyway. What about you guys? |

This guy - Christophe Capelli is a French guitar builder. He got my attention after i saw Luca Turilli's custom guitar. You can see it in my Avatar and here is the pic of it: Turilli also has a blue and red one. If i ever manage to start earning some decent money with guitar playing i'm sure i'll contact this guy to build me a guitar!! http://www.capelliluthier.com/pageprinceng.htm Enjoy the pics! I thought it was you on your avartar pic! lol Now I understand... MMm, a french luthier ..curious, I dont know him... that must be a big one to build Rhapsody's guitar. Well, this guitar isn't really my thing ( matter of personal taste ). It's always teasing to buy the guitar of your top guitarist. Well, that would be different because it's your own model then. There's a friend who made me discover a Polish Luthier named: RAN RAN GUITARS WEB They are insanely gorgeous and cheap. The problem I have with Luthiers is that they ask you the exact spec of the neck shape and fret size, radius. Actually I have no idea untill I have the axe in my hands... So I eventually have to play the guitar before buying... |

Hello Atomix, That's a good stuff for a first lesson. It is promising. Cheers for your first shot! Making lessons make your music knowledge stronger. So you built like this self confidence... Everything looks pretty good. You could also add a picture of yourself to the lesson. My general advice for lessons is, demonstrate what you do the best and not the last hotest licks you've just learn. (This advice is not for you in particular...just comes to my mind tho.) Try to polish manually your tabs. if they comes out messy. Think also you can export a screen shot from your tab, like this. Looks much better.

anyone know of good instructional DVD's? What do you want to learn? What do you expect from this purchase? What side ot technique and theory do you want to improve? What are your practice habits..? If you mentioned P.Gilbert, you are into shred. A lot of instructionnal Dvds learn you to play like the guy but you still have to understand by yourself some prosess. There are thousands of Dvds for beginner, they all show the same basics, it's easy to pick to right one. When you are advanced like you, usually you pick a dvd from an artist you know because of his personal sound. Except the Rock Discipline, I dont see a lot of " general shred" instructional stuffs... If you buy from an artist you dont like a lot, it possible you say " I already know all those licks from GMC" Myself Im interested in Bruce Bouillet Dvd, I really love his touch and also the last Frank Gambale Dvd, I saw some clip on youtube... he really kills me. I should check where to buy it. |

Hey Ezra, I'm sure Roo could handle it but the BeBop scales is an 8 note Jazz scale, so maybe you should ask Ben as well ... having said that, there are no rules, and why shouldn't you use it in a metal or rock context Hehe, I see what you mean but actually everybody use the Bebop scale... Its actually a Myxolydian scale with an added 7M or a passing note between the 7b and the root notes. Let's say, over G7 chord you play G Bebop: G A B C D E F (F#) Sure there are lots of passing notes in my 2 first lessons that can be linked to this scale. I assume as well that, in a jazz context, Ben could say much more about it. It's a great bluesy-fusion sounding tool. Or maybe Django's style lesson would be even better... To conclude with something related to P.Gilbert's topic. Like any other instructors I guess, I try to read often lessons request. Its not possible yet to do "custom lesson" just from 1 request. I'll try to submitt something that take consider of all requests. Mixed with my own style, that must be technical and melodic and instructional material. Also like Kristofer said, its important to play what we do the best. So for my next lessons, I will not take the risk to handle a lesson too far from my own style. Again, thx for the positives comments and even if negatives comments, they should help to keep realistic. |

Im seriously tempted to get one of his Instructional DVD's, but i have so much GMC lessons to do its going to have to wait! The "intense rock I" is really hot! It changed my vision of guitar playing. I've been a huge fan of Paul during many years. In my instructional DVD, I also explain one of his licks, there's a little rip off at the very end of the trailer, if you wanna check. http://shredacademy.com/Shop/roo/creative.htm To answer your idea, IMO, there are already so many lessons from Gilbert himself availabe everywhere on the web that I dont see the interest of doing one here at GMC. Actually, I like your idea but honestly who would dare to do such a challenging lesson. |

I have been a fan of Lynch years ago. I listened over and over the Dokken live at Japan. His Soldano stacks always killed me... Im afraid, I would be ridiculous attempt a George Lynch rip off... On youtube, there should be some material... Sorry. |

Hello everyone! I am thinking about learning how to play on an el. guitar (yeah, I paid just to be able to post some question here and look how the lessons look exactly ). First of all, I have never played on any instrument, ever -- well, except the computer where I do actually create music (but yeah, that doesn't matter much). My first question is about what gear to buy. I can't really know if the playing on el. guitar will hook me or not -- obviously as I have no experience on this field. So I am looking for something cheaper like Ibanez grx jumpstart kit or QTX Sky Rockie (stratocaster type guitar) (and this one is cheaper, like half the price of that Ibanez one). Which one (or something else maybe?) would you recommend? Another question is about what is driving you to play the guitar and why did you start playing on it? I know it's different for everyone but I am interested in what it gives? Also I am looking for someone who was in a similiar position like me: never played on anything, picked up el. guitar and learned mainly (or just!) from this site -- if there is someone like that? Is it doable this way by the way? Will I learn how to tune up the guitar and take care of it and similiar stuff here? Well, that's all for now, I bet I had more stuff on my mind to ask, but I will post them later if I remember what it was All replies and opinions are very appreciated, so please don't hold back! Best regards, kirua Hi, welcome. This is a great site. As an instructor, Im very demanding in matters of quality. I would not publish lessons somewhere instructional material is low level for indecent price. All I can say, is I trust high quality answers of the members so I let them tell you. I know they have good advice and knowledge. |

this is probably the most educational dvd for intermediate players though i recommend it to everyone 100% agree with you. I would say, that it's even educational for people who teach. It was really the instructional video I took inspiration from for my own DVD. Petrucci is a great instructor as well... |

Thank you Kristofer and everybody. Hi Muris! I already know you from myspace, I appreciated your comment there, it's an honor to know a guitarist of your exceptional class. It's definatly great to be here! The instructors work and play are flawless which made me hook on this website. Members knowledge is very sharp though. Hope to bring you what you expect. Original and instructional material. -Roo |
