Hi Simon,

the (ASCII) tab you see was done in this way as a quick method to learn the licks with the video.
With the Guitar Pro file you have all the infos you need to learn the lesson. If you don't use Guitar Pro, you can view the same file using TuxGuitar, which is totally free.

Anyway, you can use also this pdf file to read the music in the "old" way, with no tabs. This is also a good exercise to do, sometimes. Trust me biggrin.gif

Thank you very much. I see what you are saying. I am probably being more concerned with my fretting hand & probably not concentrating on my fingerpicking. Now that I am getting the fretting positions down, I can work a little more on picking fingers! I haven't got my speed fast enough to use even the slowest backing track, but I'm getting closer.

I'm also playing this on my electric (don't have acoustic).

Gary

Ok, let me know if you need some help in the future with this lesson smile.gif

QUOTE (Blister @ Jun 3 2011, 03:34 AM) *
Hi Jerry,

I am enjoying working on your Beatle's Style Lesson. It is really enjoyable to listen to, as well (of course, the reason for me wanting to learn it smile.gif).

My question is regarding the G-string (capo-ed at 5th fret = C). How is that to be played? When listening, it sounds as if it's intended as soft or background-sounding. When I'm practicing it seems to play out too loud. Should it be played more like a grace note? Is there a musical or guitar term for the way this is played? I hope these questions makes sense.

In the comments to the lesson, someone referred to BallyKissAngel. I live in the United States & never heard of it. I looked it up on Youtube. & ended up buying season 1. I do like the show.

Thanks again!

Gary F.

Hi Gary, thank you for commenting my lesson.
I see what you mean with your question. To be honest, I didn't think about a grace note while I was writing that lesson. Instead, I play all the coupled notes (thumb+middle fingers) with a slight accent.
I can't recall another musical term other than ghost note to identify some de-emphasized sounds. Grace notes are ornaments wich usually involve two sounds, like a quick hammer-on/pull-off or slide.
If you ear is telling you that the C note is too loud, you need to practice the fingerpicking technique to get all the possible nuances from your hands.
From my experience, this is just a problem for people who are starting to learning the fingerpicking technique. I don't know how much you master this technique but my suggestion is to play different patterns with your picking hand, even with open strings. You should experiment with accents in different position in the bars, to get a real control of your fingers.
Yeah, I also discovered that theme after the comment of our good-old member fkalich but I don't know anything about that show biggrin.gif

Very nice take Brandon. Some notes are slightly different from the original lesson, as example the hammer-ons around 0:16 where I play this

b|-7h-8----|
g|-7-------|
d|-7h-9----|

but your changes are still in the right key, so there's no real problem about this. It seems that this video has a low volume compared to other ones you posted before. Anyway, I liked the feeling you put on this lesson! If you focus on some small details, you'll nail this lesson completely.

This is the take I like most between the last one you posted. Keep attention over the pitch of each note you bend, compared to the harmony of the backing track. Some bends could be played better.

I agree with Ivan here. As I wrote on the other lesson, check intonation as well.

Very nice take. Just a suggestion, be sure to check the intonation of each string before recording the final take. If the guitar has a perfect setup this only means that you should work on your vibrato and bending to get a good pitch for each note. Otherwise even notes with no bending/vibrato will sound wrong.

If you learn a couple of boxes of the minor pentatonic scale and if you try to improvise over a 12-bar blues progression.. well, nothing's wrong, in my opinion smile.gif

Good call ! smile.gif What a masterpiece. Did you ever hear the Uli Jon Roth album 'Metamorphosis', where he performs the entire 4 Seasons with a small chamber orchestra ?

Mmm.. No! I will check that music, thanks for posting.

In my opinion, it's just a matter of experience. Play as many gigs as you can and you'll enjoy your live shows. Sometimes even a seasoned player can feel some tension before going on stage in some special occasion but it's just fine as long as we keep control of our instruments.

Antonio Vivaldi did a great job. This is for people living in the northern hemisphere right now

Seriously, there is no relationship between what I listen to and the current season/weather. mellow.gif

Very nice cover! The piano sound isn't the best out there but I guess it's a part of her strong attack.
