I too am interested in this. Well if theres anything better than what i do (Which im sure there is).
I just write things on guitar put them on tuxguitar (Or guitar pro if i have access to it) export as MIDI and put it on fruityloops then change it around a bit. However a lot of the time it's not as good as it sounds on guitar (Sometimes it sounds completely awful)

It's just to sit down with Guitar Pro and write down whatever comes into your mind and maybe get some VSTis so the instruments sound better smile.gif
As an example I have started on something that might sound a bit Lord of the Rings-ish, but it's not done yet, and there are some modifications that need to be done smile.gif

Lavendell uses Sampletank, the same as me that is tongue.gif

I think Marcus Lavendell is using some sort of orchestral VST program, as heard in his Neoclassical Etudes...

That band sounds very good. I think that the secret is to listen to a lot of classical music as well as Film soundtracks from composers like Danny Elfman. You also should buy a midi controller, a cool orquestal vst synth and try to record anything that comes to mind.
I recomend you to start composing short orquestal ideas or adding orquestal arrangements to any metal song (of you own or of any band that doen't use orquestrations).
