If you are beginner, you should definitely start with open chords. Like Tom mentioned, those chords are played within first 3 frets of guitar neck. Once you master these chords feel free to move to more advanced (BAR CHORDS).

Using the chords in songs as Laszlo said seems interesting, and I will not only entertain me, but also other people That's well spotted, practice sometimes sounds boring to others so it's good to play some songs in a meanwhile. Chords at first 3 frets ( no need for bare chords atm), scale wise I would go for pentatonic (am per example), C major and A minor scale, after that you'll expand it naturally. -------------------- Youtube

You say, there is no need to play barre chords at the moment, but I think the F chord in your "Strumming and Arpeggio" is one... it's only this tricky last one which argues me out of playing the whole lesson Let me tell you, I almost quited playing cause of that bloody F bare chord, and the rest of them. -------------------- Youtube
