> Rules

Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Hey there Tom!

My first impression was that the beginning of this lessson went very cool - even tone with nice timing. You have obvious problem to match the triplets. It's a very common issue at the beginning of our playing. You need to imagine your are listening only to bass drum and snare and to start play "waltz" in between those accents smile.gif Ability to play triplets is a kind of abilty to disconnect from part of the groove and focus only on the beats that are in sync with triplets - in this qurter notes. The faster you go, the more problem you have to keep the timing but it's visible that "square" rhythm - 8th and 16th notes are not such as problem, as the triplets.

From tonal aspects I feel like your picking is a little weak but from the good points - it's tonally even so it's not totally wrong smile.gif Well done smile.gif

Hi Tom, you've got a good basic grasp of your picking technique. It's very relaxed and quite consistent. As Darius said, it's a bit on the light side and you can afford to be a bit more assertive with the force of the pick strike. I don't mean to tense up or be too aggressive but you could do with adding a little more velocity to the pick strike.

You do great with the straight notes as D also said but the triplets are (excuse the bad pun) tripping you up at the moment. It's just the timing aspect of it, as the speed is easily handled by you. So to help with the timing you either need to count in your head or try playing along with my version until you feel you're locking in with the beat. The temptation is to rush that section but you've got more time than you think there so just relax back a bit and you'll get it.
