Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Cool to see another take from you mate - and great lesson choice!

I think you are already sensing this one is not ready for REC yet. Some major issues here:

* I cannot really hear the backing and I don't recognise Gab's original lesson/backing. For this type of lesson - which is not really focused around working on a specific technique - the feedback I will give you is going to be based on the overall musical performance. And I cannot do that if I cannot hear the setting/ band / backing.

* try to make sure both your hands are visible as this will make it much easier for us to give you good feedback.

I won't be grading this take but will keep the thread open so the other instructors get a chance to comment.

Yes! That's exactly why we want student to participate in REC. Even at the stage of lesson in progress, we can give some feedback.
Unfortunately you did a terible thing and you've hide your right hand behind your leg so...it''s hard to see what's happening in there. I belive there is some critical disorder in your right hand mechanics - picking direction assignment that causes problems with an opening lick. I thikn your mind has not load this lick comfortably enough to expect your hands to execute it correctly. It clearly visible that you relay on "luck" and intuition...you hope to make it work "somehow" while it's a s simple as it has to be repeated slowly but precisley until it starts to flow and you'll naturally feel the comfort of boosting the speed. Randomness is a very first enemy of progress. Doing things randomly extends the time of developement and very often it only makes player cover some of the mistakes withing notes rather than fixing them.

To be able to play things like this, you need to be 200% sure of what's exactly happening on each note. You have to be able to copy the lick with exact same picking direction and left hand fingering layout but in a very slow tempo. If you go for slow tempo and you let your hands do things radnomly....because slow tempo allows you to, then you will not profit the time of prctise you spend on it.

Sad truth is...we become unpatient and we try to find shortcuts but there are no. The most misunderstood thing in practise on any instrument is that....math-kind-of understanidng of things really makes the shortest way to go through the lick. It hard to belive for beginners but actually knowing exactly what you shoudl do,,no matter of tempo is the key to success.

We can notice you high interest in guitar and will to practise. Calm down, take a breath and reread this again. Don't do the shortucs - they lead nowhere. Trus in math, regularities, conciousness of what you're doing with every single note. It litelrally takes much less time to make things work, than repeating things wrong many times and expecting them to finalyl fix themseves.

That's my general tip for you, made because of some observations not only of this particular tak. Keep it in mind.

Hi mate,

This lesson includes many advanced techniques so your take is helpful to identify that elements and concepts that you need to work in order to be able to master this solo.

Here is a list of things to have in mind during the next days/weeks/months.

- At first, some technical things. It's important to have a good mix for this REC takes so we can analyse correctly your takes. My backing track is very low in this one.

- We cannot see your right hand so we can't help you with comments about your picking. Try to make both hands visible in your videos.

- Timing & Rhythm: There are many timing issues, and there are many licks played slower, with a different rhythm. I think that you should identify this sections and work on them as isolated exercises until you can reach the normal tempo. Check the first riff rhythm, it's not right in the first part.

- Hands Sync: The first riff shows clear hand sync issues. Your hands are not going together and that makes your riff playing sound sloppy. The faster licks also have some hand sync problems. Check them out!

- Advanced techniques: Legato, trills, and sweep picking needs some polishing. The licks doesn't sound clean and clear. I recommend you to use some complementary lessons and exercises to polish these licks.

Ok mate, that's all by now. Keep on the hard work!

There is no need for me to repeat what's been said, so let me say, bold choice is picking this lesson and great to see you taking on challenging bits! It's a great way to get better. It allows for examination of parts of your playing that need work. You could have picked an easy one, but I'm glad you didn't. This one has so many techniques that it's a great way to work on several things at once. Now that you know do focus on getting the hands on the shot, balancing the mix etc. I'm sure your next one will be better. Don't be thrown off. Dig in and go for it again!
Todd
