Rocker Riff 2, Lesson By Gabriel Leopardi |
|
Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.
The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Rocker Riff 2 by Gabriel Leopardi
I messed up the fast lick in the end but I think the rest turned out OK. I'm starting to question my vibrato - I know that it's more correct to let the note ring out first and then move into vibrato, and I think I do that at slower tempos, but I kinda like how it sounds when starting vibrato almost immediately at faster rock solos like this. Is that always considered bad style? |

Hi mate! Nice to find this lesson here!
I like your tone and attitude here. This take is very close, I only thing that you need to improve your overall timing. I notice that you tend to rush a bit some parts of the riff and solo, mostly those that involve hammer on or pull off. Now that you are more comfortable with the notes, put your focus on groove and try to follow it with your whole body while playing. I also think that your guitar tuning is not precise here. I don't notice it when playing the riffs, but it appears during the solo. Maybe this is a calibration issue? Check it out! Regarding your vibrato question, I don't think that you have problems with the technique. The only part that need work is when you add vibrato to your bending. Starting vibrato too soon is a possibility which makes everything sound more aggressive and nervous. It's cool as an expressive tool, but if you do it all the time it can become less expressive and more annoying. If you listen to guitarists like Satriani, or even Angus Young, you'll notice how they use different types of vibrato to make their solos more expressive. -------------------- My lessons
