Hi GMC!
Welcome to my new acoustic lesson based on Canadian singer-songwriter Dallas Green project called “City & Colour”. It’s basically his recording alias, since it’s a solo project based on acoustic “sad feeling” songs usually accompanied by rotating number of Canadian indie rock musicians.
Music Style:
His style is acoustic folk, indie, rock, based on very melodic and melancholic songs which have really deep lyrics. Most of the songs are played just with acoustic guitar and vocals, but there are also some other ones with drums, organ, cello, lap steel, percussion and some other extra instruments, mostly in his newer albums. I based this composition on his more minimalist and also most popular stuff.
Tonality, Chord Progression & Scales:
As I said earlier, his songs have a really sad, melancholic feeling that reminds me to bands like Alice In Chains and Radiohead. However there is always some kind of optimistic air in their music and that's why I found many songs composed using major tonalities and that's what I have chosen for this one. This composition is in A major tonality and all the extra arrangements added have been also composed using A scale.
Techniques:
This lesson is mostly a rhythm lesson but it also has some short A major licks.
The techniques that we will work on are strumming and pull offs.
Tuning: EADGBE
Tempo: 140 BPM
