THE PROFESSOR As you can hear in this low-down Bluesy lesson by Javier, there is more to playing a convincing blues solo than sometimes meets the ears. You do need to get the minor pentatonic and minor blues scales down in order to properly solo in the blues genre, but you can take things up a notch by adding in some modal lines as well, in particular from the Mixolydian Mode, the 5th mode of the major scale.
While you might think of this scale as more of a Jazz, Country or Shred scale, learning to play, build and solo with the Mixolydian Mode for Guitar is a great way to spice up your Blues solos and break out of the traditional Minor Blues Box Patterns at the same time.
This lesson is focused on the Delta blues, one of the earliest styles of blues music. It originated in the Mississippi Delta. Delta blues is also regarded as a regional variation of country blues. I play it by adding some rock feeling.
