Hi GMC!
Welcome to a new lesson covering the style of Radio Moscow, an American psychedelic rock band from Story City, Iowa. .
Music Style:
Their music has strong influences from late 60’s and early 70’s blues rock artists, mostly inspired in Power Trios like Cream, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pretty Things, The Who and Blue Cheer. In this lesson I’ve tried to recreate their most energetic side full of Hendrixian elements played at high speeds. You’ll note a very relevant work done by drums and bass as well.
Tonality, Chord Progression & Scales:
Blues Rock, is obviously based on Blues theory. I strongly recommend you to get into our
Blues Theory Guide to learn all the secrets behind this style. In this lesson you’ll find applications of Pentatonic minor, Blues Scale, and the use of what’s known as the Hendrix chord: E7 (#9).
Techniques:
This lesson combines rhythm and lead guitar. As it usually happens in Power Trios, you’ll find a combination of chords, riffs and short blues licks full of vibrato, double stops and bends.
Sound:
I used Fractal Ax8 “Jumped Plexi” preset which includes a Plexi amp emulation with the following settings:
I used Cubase to record audio and midi, superior drummer for drums and Trillian for bass.
Key: E blues
Tuning: Standard 440
Tempo: 120 BPM
