  • Hi GMC!

Welcome to my latest lesson. This time we are looking at long runs which go up or down the neck. A run is a long guitar phrase designed to create tension or excitement.
Every guitarist uses runs in their own way.

I've used a mixture of alternate picking runs and a legato run. Instead of just moving diatonically through a scale, I've tried to keep it interesting by climbing up, stepping back and repeating certain notes and climbing up again. This helps creating an effect of mounting tension or power.

I've kept it at 100bpm so it's not too crazy to learn. As always, keep things very slow until you know the phrases inside out without having to think about it. Only then should you try to increase the tempo.

If you need any help, you know how to find me - enjoy!
