  • Hi there GMC :)

This time I chose the 1st piece from Le Papillon (32 easy pieces, Op. 50) by Mauro Giuliani. I have to mention that this book I got from our fellow instructor Jerry Arcidiacono, who sent me the book from Italy. Thank you Jerry once again :)

This is a polyphonic piece, the first part is simpler and the second part is with added harmony/rhythmical figures. Since Le Papillon (or La Farfalla) means a butterfly, I play this piece to evoke the feeling of butterflies, with soft touch and lively. Also, I play it in a way to sustain notes at ends of phrases (sostenuto), and to let them to really end before I start the next phrase. This kind of playing was mostly used by Segovia, and he was well known for his expressive playing. After all, he has got the credits for popularity of classical guitar.

This piece is fairly easy, and it's also suitable for beginners.

    Key signature: C Major

    Time signature 3/4

    Tempo: 100 bpm

    Have fun!

    Dejan
