Heavy Classic In D# Minor

Hello friends of GMC! Today we will study some techniques and licks of the classic Heavy metal!

The origins of the words "heavy metal" is not clear. A version defends that was coined by the writer William S. Burroughs, who in his novel of 1961 The Soft Machine, includes the personage “Uranian Willy, the Heavy metal Kid”.

Another theory, possibly apocryphal, indicates as origin of the words a critic of rock who in 1967 said that Hendrix’s music was “like heavy metal falling from the sky”. The influence of the classic music in the heavy metal is well-known. From a beginning, Black Sabbath used scales of classic music in his music, and very much before that they, already experiences of merger had been done between the rock and the blues by classic music.

A fundamental milestone is considered to be Deep Purple's recording in 1969 by the Philharmonic Orchestra of London of the Concerto for Group and Orchestra. Later Ritchie Blackmore, guitarist of Deep Purple continued extending the influences with Rainbow.

Departing from these references, in the 80´s he was the Swedish Yngwie Malmsteen, with his Rising Force, who gave birth to a new style of play the guitar orientated to the classic thing, but adorned with high doses of speed and virtuosity, to prompt which there added other guitarists (Tony Mac Alpine, Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe, Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, etc.)

For this lesson I focussed in teaching the techniques most used in the style, like alternate picking, sweep picking and legatos!
The tuning is: Guitar tune down ½ steps, but with the Sixth string down.
