  • In today's lesson we'll learn how to improvise over chords in a way that should help you create very melodic ideas.

The key here is to be aware of the chord you are playing over so that instead of being guided by a scale position, you are guided by the chords you're playing over.
Here are the chords we'll be using:

    C#m7 A
    C#m7 A
    C#m7 A
    E

    F#m G#m7
    A B

The whole chord progression will work in the key of C# minor. Following are a couple scale position suggestions, but remember to use your ears and find which notes work on each chords.

Memorize the chords first, them move on to the licks. Once you are comfortable with them, start improvising and making music.

    Have fun!
