Great solo Alejandro !
Hello GMC! Today we have a new lesson inspired by the talented musician Prince.
Prince Rogers Nelson born on June 7 1958, Minneapolis, MN. Few artists have created a body of work as rich and varied as Prince. During the '80s, he emerged as one of the most singular talents of the rock & roll era, capable of seamlessly tying together pop, funk, folk, and rock. Not only did he release a series of groundbreaking albums; he toured frequently, produced albums and wrote songs for many other artists, and recorded hundreds of songs that still lie unreleased in his vaults. With each album he released, Prince has shown remarkable stylistic growth and musical diversity, constantly experimenting with different sounds, textures, and genres. Occasionally, his music can be maddeningly inconsistent because of this eclecticism, but his experiments frequently succeed; no other contemporary artist can blend so many diverse styles into a cohesive whole.
This tune is in Ab key, but we have a myxolidian exchange modal. I thought in different modes and scales to compose the solo.
The chord progression starts in Ab (one bar), then Gb (one bar, myxolidian exchange modal), Ab (one bar) and Bb (one bar). I repeat the sequence and then we have Gb (one bar), Ab (one bar), Gb (one bar) and Bb minor (one bar).
In this lesson I use the Ionian mode in the first chord, and then in the next chord we would use the Lydian mode. In the next bar we could use the Ionian mode again and the Dorian mode in Bb. Now in the next part we use the same modes but now the first chord is Gb (Lydian mode), the next chord is Ab (Ionian mode), in the next bar Gb and the last one Bb minor (Dorian mode)
In this lesson you’ll find the main’s backing track to practice the solo and also an extended version for free jamming.
I hope that you enjoy this lesson
