  • Hello GMCs! Welcome to my lesson about playing dead notes on a bass guitar. Dead notes are produced by string muting technique. String muting is one of the most useful techniques which you can use to develop a good groove. Bass guitar can be a very percussive instrument and string muting creates a percussive sound that can add a new dimension to your playing and bass lines. And when you figure it out is very easy to incorporate in your own bass lines a have them groove out even more.

In this lesson you are going to learn how to play that "dead notes" using string muting in a blues/rock type of groove. This technique can be applied in any type of music. So lets get grooving!

Scale used for composing this groove is G minor pentatonic scale.

    -Key: G
    -Tempo : 110 bpm
    -Time signature: 4/4
    -Difficulty: beginner

Equipement I used for getting this sound was: Peavey Cirrus bass with active soapbar pickups, equal mix of both of them with added bass and treble on onboard eq - then going to the nemesis(eden) amp with a 1x15" and slightly added bass and treble there (at 1 o'clock position).

Feel free to ask me any questions in the lesson feedback and in the forum.

Enjoy and I hope you'll have a lot of fun with this lesson ;)
