Punk Singing Lesson

Hello GMC! Today we have a punky lesson!

The idea of this lesson is to incorporate the major (Ionian) tonality and scale to you musical ideas and melodies. I have chosen neo punk to explain this scale because this music is commonly in major scales. That’s the reason why it sounds happy. Listen to bands like Green Day, Blink 182 and even the Ramones. You’ll hear a nice and happy atmosphere in their music.

Remember my last blues lesson where I talked about the connection between your thoughts, your voice and your guitar. Let’s do it with the major scale! If you incorporate this scale to your singing and then do the connection with your guitar you’ll became a more melodic guitar player and musician. This tune is in D major key and we will work obviously with D major scale.

First we will reproduce the scale with our voice. Practice it with your guitar in all keys. Then try to sing the second part’s pattern. Once you have it, try to sing the scale without playing with your guitar. This will train your ear and that is one of the most important things for a musician. Finally make your own improvisations over the backing track using D major scale. You can post it in my personal forum if you would like to hear my feedback.
