Don't worry about length of your fingers and thumb,
I'm sure it's fine,it needs some practicing to get used to it just like everything else.
Try practicing regular major and minor chords on all 6 string,
Just play 6th string with your thumb while holding small bare with index finger
on top 2 strings for majors,and on top 3 strings for minors.
That'll prepare you nicely for more advanced chords like in here. - T10127th January 2008
My thumb is in pain
I guess it's just a matter of getting used to it since I've never used my thumb to fret before, but is there any way I can train it? And is it possible to do it wrong or are my fingers just too short?

Yeah,I make chord progression and then I simply jam over it.
Why D#m7/-5?
Cause it feels so natural,has all the same notes as DM7,
all you have to do is move root note.

D#m7/5- D#dim, so how did it came to you to do this, why didn't you do
D#713 D#7 for example.. i know it's a weird question, but it's because i would like to compose something and i don't really know how to start, i need a beginning, something to hold on ....

I'm not sure I understand. How can it be an F# if theres no F# note in the chord?
I'm not sure I get what you were trying to explain with the intervals, and neither the example. :s
Could you perhaps rephrase or explain it better? (if possible)

I actually have a question, 'cus I've always loved jazz, but the chord construction and their names have always somewhat confounded me.
What chords and chord structures are typical for jazz? In this lesson it is obvious that some minor 5ths, some 7ths, 9ths, 13ths etc. stand out from standard progressions, but are there some ground rules to follow?

Yes,add means added or additional so that note isn't actually part of the chord,
I'm taking about building chords by triads,3rd,5th,7th,9th,11th etc.

great lesson Muris, Jazz is a style i must incorporate in my playing for various reasons.
But what does the "add" means in a chord? "additiona"?, i know dim means diminished, aug augmented, but add?

DeepRoots, "+" is sign for #-sharp and "-" is for b/flat.
It's used in chord structure but not when talking about intervals alone.

Hello GMC,it's time for more Jazz! This lesson is about chords are progression. To get that soft sound I used my thumb to slightly brush the strings, you should try it the same way.
About chords here:
There are many types involved, from simple 7th chords to much complex, add13,+9 etc. But please, don't be afraid of it, it's actually quite easy to follow, I tabbed all chords for you.
One thing I would like to mention is that we use our left hand thumb here as well. And we need to do some left hand muting to silent strings we don't play at the moment.
It's in key of D,tempo 96bpm,Swing feel.
