  • Hello folks! In this lesson we will take a look at using octaves in a metal context. We will be using octaves as a songwriting tool, so this lesson is supposed to give you ideas about how to add textures and soundscapes to your songs using octaves so this lesson isn't really about technique.

I have created a little soundtrack that consists of 3 segments: "Intro", "Verse", "Chorus". In each I created a very easy riff and the purpose is to show you ideas how you can add a cool element to a musical part with octaves.

Keep in mind though, don't take these ideas as rules, they are just there to give you some guide on how to create your own octave-runs. If you want more ideas as how to use octaves creatively, I suggest you listen to some Opeth, they are the masters of using octaves in a cool way.

So, I hope you like it and get a lot of ideas! :)
