Nickelback Style Lesson

Hello friends of GMC! In this lesson we will analyze the style of one of the best bands/groups of the moment (for me :) ): Nickelback.

This Canadian quartet was formed in the middle of 1996 for Chad Croeger (vocal/guitar), Ryan Peake (guitar/vocal), Mike Croeger (bass) and Ryan Vikedal (drums) in the city of Vancouver. The style of Nickelback is defined by their incredible sound of modern Rock and grunge. With some influences like heavy metal and country, Nickelback achieves a perfect balance in their music. Working as an indie band, they recorded a demo called "Hesher", then, looking for a professional level, they recorded "Curb" album that had a good success in their country. At the beginning of 2000 they released "The State" that with the single called "Leader of men" reached the Canadian TOP 20, sharing tours with bands like "Creed", "Silverchair", "Everclear" and others. In 2002 they released their first album with international distribution called "Silver side up", which includes the single "How you remind me", a song that we all will remember.

This lesson is based on the song "Fight for All the Wrong Reasons". It is one of my favorite songs since it is the most complete for the study of Nickelback style. In the introduction we can listen to powerful guitars playing chords in the tonality of C minor, melodic arpeggios and a very powerful riff playing with the central melody. The study of this style is very important to create your own songs. We'll use some techniques as Alternate picking, Vibrato, Slides and Palm muting in this lesson.
