jammer9116th June 2008Hi david nice lesson. The riff sounds something pretty close to the style of the band unearth, I think its due to the phrygian scale being used.
I have a problem with the sweeping. Im unable to get it up to the same speed as you (but that can be solved with practice over the summer). But my main problem is that when I sweep I get a lot of feedback (lot of noise and not exactly the notes being played). How do I mute things properly while sweeping using the left and right hand. When I try muting with the right hand I either get a palm muted sound and can sweep slow or just dead notes.

I remember last summer you did an awesome metal solo lesson, which im still getting around learning. I would be really amazing if you could do a metal solo series like this.

I feel as if you set the standards for what a accomplished Musician really is and your playing is very intelligent and that shines through aswell.
You should really make a series lesson on a Mode or something just because following you ever step of the way would help us greatly as It has with other instructors "Series".

Playing in a band when you are the only guitar player can be a delicate situation. You have to create interesting parts and blend lead and rhythm elements in a very natural way. This lesson should inspire you create a metal style rhythm part with some lead type interactions.
There are two different keys in today's track. The first one will be in A Phrygian Dominant, which is basically a Phrygian mode with a Major 3rd. The second key will be A Harmonic minor.
Study the scales and work on the examples slowly. Once you are comfortable with these, try to create your own guitar parts.
