Pavel10th December 2007Audition can't use VST samples as far as i know so you'll need some Sequencer which can work with MIDI tracks: CubaseSX or Reaper for example. Than you'll need some VST samples for Drums, bass guitar and instruments you want.
In sequencer you create a MIDI track, than it's really simple to edit the track and write your music in it, than just apply a sound sample to it and it will play exactly what you have written, with the sample you want.
Also make sure to read the RECORDING FORUM, it has loads of info on samples, mixing and this kind of stuff.

It only depends on how you practice. If you just learn random songs you can't have progress. I've been killing myself with exercises for 5 years. If you stick to GMC and work on technique i am sure you can do it.

For drums i use XLN Addictive Drums VSTi plug-in. Bass -> Spectrasonics Trilogy, orchestra and similar stuff -> Miroslav Philharmonik. For a sequencer i use Cubase SX3.

I practice a lot of legato and hammer-ons became very natural to me. It has a lot to do with single finger control. We all work on making our fingers synchronized but at the same time you msut work on full control of each finger separately. That's where legato technique kicks in.
I have no big advice except for: "Practice legato - especially with pinky!"

Pavel, there's a little mistake. When you explain the fifth part you say "because F major chord consists of F#, A#, C#". It should be F#, isn't it?

The "x" means a DEAD NOTE - so you fret the notes you want to play but you slightly release the strings and when you strum it with the right hand you mute the strings together with the strum. It's a cool trick to use when you are creating rythm patterns on the acoustic guitar.

You noticed that right! At the moment i was composing that piece i was heavily inspired by Steve Vai in general, not by a particular song. I was on a trip with my father to another country and i didn't even have an amp with me - just the electric guitar so i composed this song barely hearing what it sounds like. Later when i got home and plugged in the amp, added some delay and said: "Damn, this sounds cool!"

I use the clean channel, single-coil pickup, and delay. The chorus you hear is actually the backing track created with synths sample. My guitar goes only through delay.

Advanced chording is something that scares many players away.Same happened to me when i saw Eric Johnson doing all the awesome chording stuff. I thought it is just too hard to use chords like that and i gave up for some time.
Then later i came up with the piece of song you'll see in the intro video, and i was wondering what chords were i using there, because i played some kind of cool chords and i didn't actually know what are they. With a bit of investigation i found that the stuff is pretty simple and cool sounding so if you want to see what the big mystery of advanced chords looks like - jump in!
