Hi GMC students - and welcome to my blues lessons series! We will study some of the most used licks, scales and techniques. I think that every guitar player should know these kinds of licks and scales. I could name lots of great guitar players in different syles that have an important blues background.
In this first lesson, I recorded a solo over a twelve-bar blues progression using the A minor blues scale. This solo is a great exercise to improve your bendings and vibrato as well as to incorporate this kind of licks to your diary playing.
Blues Scale:
I – bIII – IV – bV – V – bVII – VIII
This scale is like the minor pentatonic with the addition of an extra note called the flat five (blue note).
I’ve recorded 4 backing tracks for you to practice this solo. You also should learn the blues scale and jam with it. You can start making your own variations of the licks of this lesson but then, It will be very important for you to try to create your own licks using the blues scale.
