  • Economy picking is a very effective way to play fast without overdoing it. Every movement in economy picking is calculated so that all the superfluous is eliminated.
The rule is to play alternate picking always except when playing two notes on adjacent strings.
Whenever this happens, we will use sweeping to continue the movement started. In other words, if you are playing a note down and need to play the next string, you will continue to play down...
This technique might seem complicated at first and might require some preperation to organize your licks so that the sweep is possible, but after a while it gets natural and you'll be able to play with economy picking without having to think about it.

This lesson is in A Lydian. I provided 4 backing tracks at different speeds for you to work over. For further information, I recommend checking out Franck Gambale who is one of the masters of that technique.

I hope you have fun learning this!
