I'm nearing completion of this amazing lesson. Do you have any tips for those without a whammy bar?
I'm loving this stuff. Might be one of first lesson for me to nail on GMC. Great phrasing man!
Very, very tasteful! Just love your playing here!!!!
Man this is nice it reminds me of some kind of neoclassical instrumental rock or jazz fusion:D love it superb!
Evening blues fits so well...I love this kind of blues
Thanks David!
Amazing lesson! I love your style! You should do some more lessons like this one.
Thank you Laidback! I hope you find this lesson useful. Let me know if you need any help with it!
Hi Markus,
I love GMC. It`s a realy cool Page on Web.
But this lesson was my reason to sign up.
Thank you for this.

Yes, they're triplets
Ok, I think I figured it out. Are all the notes in triplets?
Hello, I'm trying to get this backing track down with guitar pro, but somehow when I'm writing down the the bass notes, it doesn't fit correctly into the bars. It goes like 3,250/4,000 - 3,250/4,000 on each bar if that makes any sense
Wow, this is awesome.
i like the lighting! lol
amazing need i say more. great playing and i like the neo-classical bluesy feel.
its funny how that a instructor learning his own lesson
Hey Marcus!!!Great lesson!!!very creative!!thanks!!!
Wow! Thanks Gen, I'm glad you like it
I cant believe i didnt leave any comment on this lesson, this is by far my favourite lesson on gmc!
Thank you AJGgtrst
Let me know if you need any help from me!
Wow...I think Joe said all the "wow"s but still, smooth and slick. This is gonna get bookmarked and learnt (somehow lol) Love your stuff Marcus!
Thanks Joe!
Wow Wow Wow WOw very expressive
Thanks botoxfox!
It's very fun (and easy) to improvise to this backing track!
I must say I totally love the backing track!
I meant "...so the note we're playing is a D (same as 15th fret)" - not an E as I said before!
No problem Marcus, glad I can help. That run is my favorite part of the song. You're right on about getting the vibrato to sound on the 21st fret - I think on the e-string 9th fret too (at the end of the riff). Both of those notes w/vibrato really complete that riff and kind of put it in it's own little "box", so to speak. thanks!
Thanks Jeff!
I've checked the TAB now, and you are right! My bad, sorry!
Please note that we should keep the bend on the 12th fret, B-string, while we play the 13th fret. So the note we're playing is a D (same as 15th fret).
I'll fix the TAB a.s.ap! Thanks for letting me know!
Hey Marcus, this tune is awesome! I'm trying to learn it and I'm looking at video 4 where the beginning of the tab is this:
-------------|----------------
-----12------|--12b--15---12--
--11----11---|----------------
-------------|----------------
-------------|----------------
-------------|----------------
But it sounds to me like you are playing it like this:
-------------|----------------
-----12------|--12b--13---12--
--11----11---|----------------
-------------|----------------
-------------|----------------
-------------|----------------
Is that right?
Man I love this tune. It is to me, a lot harder that it appears. Especially when trying to properly use the volume knob and also playing those bends on the 2nd fret! Amazing!
Thank you Zizi Top!
The two repetitive chords in the backing track are B-minor, and A/B. So B-minor (Aeolian) works fine as well!
Hey
I love your phrasing man
Really nice solo
Actually i'm working on modes, you said in your description that we can improvise in B Dorien (i know that B is the tonique) but can't we also imrovise in B mixolydian (we just have to flatten the 3m) or aeolien
and by the way, do you know which notes are used in the Backing track (i figured out the B and A on the synth )
Thanks a lot
Thanks Pacman!
@ krimzen
No, this lesson is in standard tuning.
hey.. are you in e flat?
*bowing down*
Thank you Toni!
I just love these lessons of yours, your phrasing is amazing, and tone too
Thanks!
wow this sounds really cool. good job, its i great inspiration.
Yeah i was looking to download it. If you know where i can find it that would be great. If not thanks anyway..
Thanks!
The only effect I've used is a small delay, but I believe the key to this tone is to "play" with the volume knob.
Sweet! Very "David Gilmore"ish. Freaking awesome!! What effects are you using to get that ultra smooth tone?
@ chainsbroken:
You'll find it at the right side of the video. There's a link called "Backing Tracks". You can't download it though...
Sounds really great man. What can I do to get the backing track? or where?
Shredmandan said:
This sorta blues is so warm, i played part of it to my parents and they were glad that i stopped playing hi gain power chords and stuff.
---------------------------------------------
About the same happened to me. I started improvising over the backing track, and my dad came in and was like "What is that???" He rarely pays attention when I ask him to listen to something, but this time, he came by himself
Great Sound!!!!!!!!! Really chilled me out.
I allways find time for a marcus lesson even with the 10 billion things i have going on at the moment lol..I must say my fingers are becomeing bullet proof......from working with the bends and legato....but i got thru this lesson pretty much took the whole day....better than 2 monthes on the neo blues one...I wish this lesson was first.......cause the pitch bends are crazy in the neo blues,,,,but once i got the hang of it........wasnt so bad just need some strong fingers....I came up with a way to just get better pitch controll bending the note useing 2 or 3 fingers......probly a bad habbit to get into......but it seems to be working for me ok.....just have to keep it in my mind what fingers to use.....so i dont miss scale runs on higher notes........thanks for the great lesson
Lavendell, you are now one of my favorite guitar players!!
@ Shredmandan,
Wow! Thank you so much, I don't know what to say!
Tell you what, I'll print your post and put it on my fridge so I can read it every day that how much I appreciate your comments!!
@ Eat-Sleep-andJam,
About an alternate picking lesson; I'll see what I can do... not promising anything though, but thanks for the request
Shremandan:
This is real blues. I heard this stuff (but havent been listening to blues much so cant compare artists). Maybe BB King? I was wrong bout Kirk, he does have evident blues influence in some solos
This sorta blues is so warm, i played part of it to my parents and they were glad that i stopped playing hi gain power chords and stuff.
Sweet Lesson Dude , can I maybe request a alternate picking lesson from you on just straight alternate picking ? Might be the wrong place to do it but I was just wondering
Oh and also I love when you wear a black shirt so it looks like just a neck, arms and a guitar in the video .
Nice Job
-John
Marcus=definatly keep us posted if you got a cd on the way cause i would love to get it.
Jammer91=about Kirk Hammet his solos are almost always played in a pentonic or blues pentonic scale Thats why.Marcus really just has his own thing going here thats awesome and at the same time its a blues style i cant say i have ever heard from anyone else.Thats what i love about his lessons.I cant compare him to other guitarist styles he's got something special going .This is the type of player's im looking for to learn from.I can honestly say i enjoy Marcus's guitar playing as much as i do some of the famous legends.we are truly luckey to have you here Marcus, its why i stay here.
This is the first BLUES lesson that i got my hand down in and dirty into. Guess what, im practicing this song at 1:15 AM (while everyone i sleep). This is what i call real blues.
How does Krik Hamlet (of metallica) claim his solos are blues when hey dont sound bluesy. How do you get blues sounds and improvise?
Guys,
Thank you very much for all the overwhelming comments! I get really motivated by reading them
Kizaze: "I would wait in line to buy your CD or see you play live! Anything in the works?"
... maybe! so stay tuned
Man Marcus you got me!
This is so tasty, I cant stop listening
Excelent Marcus! This is a great song and you're a great guitar player.
Marcus,
Cool ii-v progression .... and the B-dorian (A-major scale) and blues scales always work great over that progression. Great job!
Joe
I agree with Shredmandan - Marcus, I would wait in line to buy your CD or see you play live! Anything in the works?
Kizaze
Same as no payne no gain said your lessons make me smile. That was killer, you really should try and get out and make it as a professional musician cause you definatly got the talent!
Your solos make me make smile. They are amazing. I'll try this and see what I can do with it, but your technique and style is where I want to be. I'll try to keep my fingers relaxed and light....
Thanks Marcus! Great lesson , sound is great like always. I agree with Kris the backing track is lots of fun to play along with.
