Improvisation without phrasing is like reading a book without any punctuation. Silence between musical ideas is as important as the notes you play. They help the listener "digest" what you just played and helps the audience keep interest in what you are communicating with them.

In this lesson, we'll take a look at an improvisation that I recorded to illustrate that concept.

These licks are to be played in tempo to capture the right feel of them.
The track starts in A Dorian, then modulates to E Lydian dominant, which is a Lydian mode with a minor 7th.

Practice slowly, memorize everything and apply it to your own music.

Have fun!
