Hello GMC and welcome to my Staccato Lesson! As you probably already know, staccato means "as short as possible". :)
Now, there are a few ways to get the note sounds staccato. First and easiest in surely palm muting.
But since this will mute the note we are not going to use this technique.
A second method is to stop the sound by touching the string with the pick. Unfortunately, it'll give us the "pick attack" so this one is out as well...
And the last method is the one we're going to use here. It looks like some sort of small "jumps". :)
This is how I do it:
After I play the note I slightly remove both finger and the string off the fretboard while still gently touching the string with the finger. That helps to stop ringing of open string.
I was thinking a lot about this lesson, what type of backing to make, and note wise in general. So I came up with this a bit funny track. It sounds like Baroque music, cartoon or even music from C64 games, you name it. :)
