yes, Muris mutes a bit the strings with the palm of his right hand to get that sound.This lesson is definitely not difficulty level 3! I want to see your takes of it at full speed (160 bpm) if you don't agree with me

Yeah, we can learn forever and that's the best feel indeed.
About camera, you can use photo camera with video mode as well,
it doesn't have to be "real" camera like these new HD models etc.

This is just awesome: everywhere I look in the fretboard I see tons of techniques, each of which is a complete world full of things to learn. Every time I see I've learnt something, something new pops out and I just notice how much I still have to go. I love that feeling.
But yeah, I'll keep on going nice and calm. After some time, I'll see if I can take a video (I don't have access to good video cameras so I'm not sure about the quality) and post it somewhere.- Muris Varajic22nd October 2009
Well, rating lessons is quite hard.
If you are new to sweep picking than this lesson is far more than 3, I agree.
But if we look at it in real "sweep world" than it can't be rated more than 3,
there are faaaar more harder things to do with sweep and we have scores 1-10.
Ohhh, I made a mistake from the start,
I thought you were working on THIS lesson.

That sounds like something I actually had in mind. I have some kind of an idea of how it's supposed to be done, and I think that practising these licks slowly are just what I need right now.
I also feel that this is actually quite advanced stuff, but why is it only solo with difficulty "3"?

Human being is capable of learning things in many ways
and as your skills become better it'll be quite relative which way you choose, you'll see.
But since this lesson is pretty much advanced one maybe it could be too much
to learn one single arpeggio or part of the lesson and practice it
until it goes "perfect", it might take you too long imo.
I would rather learn all shapes somehow and play it VERY slowly, nice and clean,
along with everything else that you practice of course.
That way you'll become familiar with different chord shapes,
you'll upgrade your fretboard knowledge etc.
Speed will come naturally after a while, do not push it,
try to play everything clean and accurate and result WILL come, don't worry.
You should also try THIS lesson for even more basic sweep patterns. - Bluesberry22nd October 2009

Of course you can play it without upstroke on high E using hammer-on instead.
But the idea is to use upstroke,yeah.

Sure,why not.
Those are actually 2 arpeggio shapes,one ends on the note where another starts.
As long as you sweep it,you're doing fine.
As the matter of fact,I putted licks like that to SPLIT rhythmic parts

Start with 2 string shapes,it's sort of economy picking actually.

Of course it depends of your free time etc but try to practice as much as possible.
Sweeping really might be tricky if you're new to it,

Terrific Muris!!! Great lesson. Right in time for me to incorporate sweeps in to my practice routine. In your opinion, how much time should I devote to this per day? Right now, my fastest is your slowest (clean that is). My goal is to be at 160 in about a year.

damn! Cool lesson! I never learned sweep picking and I was doing for the first time after using this lesson!
I had problems though. You sweep up also, correct? Once I got to the 170 bmp my left hand guy was like "uhhhhhh?"

Hello GMC and welcome to my first Sweep Picking Lesson!! (I see smile on Dan's face tho :), -GMC member who requested this lesson)
Ok, I played some basic stuff here, nothing too complex. We have 2 chords/arpeggios here, A major and A Minor. I did it ascending and descending using 2, 3, 4 and 5 strings sweeping.
Chords are A major (over A arpeggio) and F major (over Am arpeggio). This F major combined with Am gives us nice Fmaj7 chord.
Tempo is 160 bpm and notes are 16th, is not too fast indeed. Point is to push you to play it really accurate and tight in timing. Fast sweeps might be often "out" of straight timing which is also ok. But this time it's straight. :)
