i agree with guitarist16... that was an insane 9 seconds...
most intense 9 seconds of my life.
great lesson Pavel!!!!
fantastic
Amazing mate, love this one !!!
Yay, I'm starting to practice sweeping again! And this lesson has been most useful in the past.
Cool man, thanks! Congrats on the improvement!
This is a sweeeeeeeet lesson, I love it, after one week I'm up to 80 bpm from 50 bpm last week...gonna keep at it :D I'm so happy!! Great Lesson pavel, it's really helping me grasp Sweep arpeggios quicker now! Keep up the great lessons and I'll be back for more.
Freaking sweet! pure madness!
Thanks a lot Smikey! I am really glad it helped!
your amazing pavel. your sweeping lessions are helping me a ton! Thanks for bein a great instructor here at gmc

ok thanx
Before going on this lesson - visit the BASICS OF SWEEPING LESSON and read the HUGE post in the feedback area! I explained it all!
how do you mute the strings on the up strokes? My right hand moves along down the strings when i down stroke but i have nothing to mute on up strokes except in some cases my pinky...
No - the key note is the one you start the shape with! (basic 5-string shapes)
Cool man, that helps tons! So correct me if Im wrong, but if you hammering on to open the 5 string shape. The Key note is the one your hammering on too? Thanks again
Thanks man!
Well, for those basic shapes you have learned so far - the key note for 5-string shapšes is the one you start from on the 5th string.
Key note for 3 string shapes is more tricky. For those 2 basic shapes we've done in my lessons the key is the note on the 2nd string. But it's NOT THE RULE. There are lots of shapes.
Man Im digging this site so much. So much great stuff here, a guitar players dreams. Pavel, your the man, badass playing!!! Anyways, Im trying to get this sweep thing down. Im doing good with playing the shapes, I have been practicing them for about 6 months now. But now Im trying to incorporate them into my own songs. So tell me, and excuse me if this seems like a dumb question. What note in the shape of an arppegio defines its key? Both in 3 string shapes, and 5 string shapes.
Sounds good!
You can play the way you like it as long as you make it SWEEP picking and it sounds ok!
thats great thanks! just one more question, can i play with the pick angled? Im currently sweeping with the side of my pick more than the tip.
No - i play them all as 6-tuplets!
I seem to be practicing Minor1 shape as 6-tuplets, and the Minor2 shape im playing 3 notes per beat. I guess this is ok??
Man, you can always replace that shape that goes to 24th fret by the first 5-string shape. Simply play it twice!
As for 3-string shapes - you can make a very cool solos with 3-string shapes because if you play them fast they sound like WARP SPEED!! While 5-string shapes stay in the same position for a longer time. Lets say you play C-D-E chord progression: if you play it with 5-string shapes it will take you longer time to play those 3 shapes. If you play it with 3-string shapes you'll finish it in no-time!
I suggest you practice both! Keep sweeping!!
Hello Pavel,
due to getting on so well with the Basic Sweep Lesson. I started the 3 string lesson only to find my guitar is a few frets short. I realise we can move it all down but I was wonder if its ok to jump to this lesson for now untill i get the new guitar i had planed anyway? I enjoy playing 5 string shapes more anyway! :0)
great lesson, I was looking for something not too difficult too get me into sweeping, and this and the 1st sweep lesson are it, thanks Pavel
thanks pavel, great lesson. this will keep me busy for a while.
The 2nd shape has one extra note we play with pinky - but not in this lesson. So you'll meet more stuff in upcomming lessons!
I did it on purpose so you practice both shapes and use of both in the same lesson. BUT - in this lesson the notes are the same - but if we play the last note of the second shape with a pinky - that would be the extra note we would have to tap if we played it with shape 1. Every shape has it's advantages so you must learn to use both!
Keep rockin'!
Hey Pavel,
Why do you use 2 diffrent Am-shapes, although you play the exact same notes?
You have to hammer-on from 10 to 14
wow! at first this was very intimidating, its not as bad as i thought. kudos man, this is by far one of my favorite sounding lessons on the site. i got a question im learning a song and it has sweeps in 6 string shapes. they look something like this.
---------------------12---------------
------------------13----13------------
---------------14----------14---------
-------10--14-----------------10------
----11---------------------------11-12
-12-----------------------------------
does this mean i have to start a sweep then alternate pick and then continue my sweep?
I do sweeping just like alternate picking - imagine you do a downstroke - and apply the same thing to sweeps.
am i supposed to sweep with the side of the plectrum? because i find it alot smoother to do that, i reckon it sounds nicer....but is it right? anyone?
YOu want to find the 3-strings sweeps? Here they are: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...esson/index.htm
Where is the first part to this tutorial? I was practising a few days ago and found it really useful, but I can't find links to it anywhere!!
Well the best would be to keep it in the middle of the neck, but i place it where i feel comfortable for certain technique.
Any opinions on thumb position?
I was told that it should be on the back of the neck, but in a lot of the videos I watch, it's more around the neck.
OK i got your question now:
you press the note only when you need to play it - so when playing a shape you start playing from 1st string and you press the notes on the 1st string, but not on other strings. So when you move down the shape you press the notes one by one, releasing the notes you have played.
OK! What I was referring to was not muting - more of "lifting" so that you don't hold the arpeggio as a chord - which I think might be a common beginner mistake.
I don't think so - i was only concentrated on my right hand - and that is basically how i do it - by muting the strings with the right hand - and i can say it works Because when you are playing some more complicated stuff you don't have time to mute the strings with the left hand.
So I sat down with this lesson and I must say it's a great illustration on how to start combining major and minor arpeggios. As well as just how to build licks by combining the shapes.
If this stuff is too difficult for you - make sure to just pick one or two shapes which feels most comfortable (or least hard!) - from this one or the last lesson - and work with that for a while.
If you try to swallow lots of new stuff without mastring the basic technique (sweeping) you will end up discouraged...!
Pavel: When starting out with sweeping - did you consciously think about lifting your left hand fingers after the pickstrike - to avoid unwanted noise (two strings ringing together)?
Your fingers reminds me of spiderlegs for some reason. They move incredibly fast.
Thanks, the tab looks perfect!
Tab fixed - as well as fingering and chords on the separate tab sheet!
Very very nice:D
Yes Pavel will fix some minor tab mistakes later today!
18 p 17 should be 18 p 16 ?
Wondeful!!!
For me, some times it was difficult to follow your fingering since I needed to look at the video AND the tab at the same time. That was with the 3 string shapes...
Could you perhaps include which finger is used and enter it below the tab? If it's not too much work.
