Hi Folks! So here we are with our 2nd part of "Unlocking your scales". Last lesson we looked at how to get simple triads from within our "A" Dorian scale. This lesson we will go one step further and extract 4 note arpeggios! Remember, there are no extra notes being added here, all these arpeggios are locked away in your scale, waiting for you to find them!
Hopefully what you have gained is an insight into how varied a scale really is, and by learning lots of different ways to play a scale, we are definitely expanding our improvisational capabilities.
To stack arpeggios from any scale we simply take our starting note... play it... skip a note, play, skip a note, play skip a note play...
This gives us a R 3 5 7 arpeggio, and in the case of "A" dorian, starting from "A" we get - A C E G, which makes an Aminor7 arpeggio. We then repeat the same process starting from the 2nd note of "A" Dorian, which makes a B minor7 arpeggio. And then from the 3rd note, etc.
The video shows the ascending version, but for homework I want you to figure out the descending version!
Best of luck to you!
Nick
