Hi! This lesson is an extract from an instrumental song of my own. I created it after seeing some Steve Vai instructional clinics where he talks about the way you play a melody. He says that he uses "non guitaristic" ways avoiding common passages in his lines and that makes him sound very original.
I also remember him saying that he finds it more difficult and it takes him more time this way of playing the slow melodies than playing shred stuff. That’s why I get inspired and I tried to play this melody in a way that was not natural for me. I paid attention in how I played every note (which finger, the amount, vibrato, etc.).
Every note is important in a slow melody. I used some of the most common uses of slides, legato, bending, and vibrato by Vai in my song.
The song is in C Ionian key and I use C Ionian scale in the melody. The tempo is 120 bpm.
