  • Hi Guys,

Welcome to my lesson No. 49

I strongly suggest before you start with this new lesson, take a look into my previous lessons
to understand the Modes and how to work with them!

Im my lesson 35 I presented the 7 Modes of the C Major scale
    >>> https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/7-Modes-in-7-Keys <<<

Im my lesson 47 I presented the 7 Modes of the C Melodic minor scale
    >>> https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/7-Modes-of-melodic-Minor-in-7-Keys <<<

Now let's take the modes of the Harmonic Minor scale
To name the new scales we take the usual names of the modes and just add flats (b) or/and sharps (#) like we already did
    with The Melodic minor scale.

The 7 Modes of the C Harmonic Minor scale are:

    I. C Harmonic Minor
    Intervals:
    1, 2, b3, 4, 5, b6, 7
    Chord:
    Cm(Maj7)

    II. D Locrian nat2
    Intervals:
    1, b2, 3, 4, b5, nat6, b7
    Chord:
    Dm7b5

    III. Eb Ionian #5
    Intervals:
    1, 2, 3, #4, #5, 6, 7
    Chord:
    EbMaj7#5

    IV. F Dorian #4
    Intervals:
    1, 2, b3, #4, 5, 6, b7
    Chord:
    Fm79

    V. G Phrygian Dominant
    Intervals:
    1, b2, 3, 4, 5, b6, b7
    Chord:
    G7b9

    VI: Ab Lydian #2
    Intervals:
    1, #2, 3, #4, 5, 6, 7
    Chord:
    AbMaj7

    VII. B Diminished
    Intervals:
    1, b2, b3, 3, b5, b6, bb7
    Chord:
    G#Dim7

Instead to do this in just one key, I always kept the bass on a C note PLUS the corresponding chords of each mode. So in another words you'll get 7 different keys and learn to compare each mode individually.
To give you a better demonstration how different each mode sounds, I made 1 lick for every mode. (7 licks in total)
