Hi GMC!
Welcome to my new acoustic lesson.
This time I decided to start a new series of lesson that covers the acoustic side of classic rock legends. In this first opportunity I’m covering one of the biggest rock & roll bands of all times, “The Rolling Stones”. There is no need to say too much about them, they made history since 1962, influenced lots of musicians and still rocking the world and making people happy. Haven’t you given a chance to them yet?
Music Style:
Besides their rocker side, they always had beautiful ballads. Some of the most popular ones are “Angie”, “Wild Horses”, “Lady Jane”, “Ruby Tuesday”, “Memory Motel” and “Out of Tears”. The Stones had a very strong folk and country influence and that’s why they usually include acoustic guitars in their compositions as well as open tuning like the one that I used here. In this lesson I tried to mix both things: ballad style + acoustic guitar and the result is a very nice ballad with folk influences.
Tonality, Chord Progression & Scales:
As I’m using
open G tuning, the easiest tonality to use is obviously G major.
Thanks to this, the chord shapes allow many open strings and the overall sound that I get is very full and opened.
Techniques:
This is basically a rhythm guitar lesson so we will focus on strumming and timing. It’s an excellent lesson for beginners that want to incorporate new chord shapes but also for more advanced players who never experimented with alternative tunings.
Tuning: Open G
From lower to higher: DGDGBD
Here you will find a short tutorial that I’ve written about this tuning:
