Hi GMC!
Welcome to my new lesson in the style of the canadian duo "Black Pistol Fire" founded by Eric Owen (Drums) and Kevin McKeown (guitar, vocals) in 2009.
Music Style:
They are a powerful indie blues rock duo with influences by Led Zeppelin, Chuck Berry, Nirvana, Buddy Holly and Muddy Waters. Their music is usually compared with the Black Keys, the White Stripes, and Band of Skulls. In this lesson, I've composed a track that recreates their more recent music, which keeps those blues rock roots but add more indie and alternative sounds.
Tonality, Chord Progression & Scales:
Their style has strong blues roots so you can imagine that 'I - IV - V progressions' and Pentatonic scales are what they mostly use. This tune is in G minor, and the progression is mostly based on Gm (Im) - Cm (VIm) and D (V). The main riff and melodies are based on G minor scale (Aeolian).
Techniques:
This lesson is a great exercise for rockers that want to get into blues, and for those blues players that want to become rockers. Here I combine riffing, with triads and melodies, so it requires a good sense of rhythm, alternate picking, muting and some other techniques as vibrato and legato.
Sound:
I used Fractal Ax8's bogfish brown (bogner emulation), Cubase 9.5 to record audio and midi, Superior Drummer 3 for drums and Trillian for bass.
Tuning: Standard 440.
