Hi GMCers - welcome back! The introduction to any song is very important to the whole process of composing. I got the idea for this lesson from my fellow musicians who were trying to compose their own songs. After analyzing dozens of their attempts I reached a conclusion: impatience is a common mistake.
You must let the song develop, and therefore pay attention to how it starts.
What I like to use is a mix of comping and soloing. This can be a very successful combination, because a proper balance of these two can control the overall dynamics, especially if the guitar is the only polyphonic instrument in the band.
Here we have an example, a demonstration of this approach, using soft blues. This can develop into several directions, the rest is up to you!
