  • Hello GMCers!

If you have a Piano/Keyboard wish-lesson, jump right now to the Forum and add it to the list: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=33652

For this lesson, I've written a short piece: “Dirty Hamm!”. This song features a real dirty, distorted, screaming Hammond organ sound! This sound is one of my favorites!

This song can be useful for two purposes: (1) to learn the basic Hammond techniques and (2) to create a good (I think so :) backing track for your Rock/Blues guitar solo!

Please, try it and let me know if I’m right or not … ;) Have a great Hammond playing with my “Dirty Hamm!” song …

(From Wikipedia) The Hammond organ is an electric organ which was invented by Laurens Hammond in 1934 and manufactured by the Hammond Organ Company. While the Hammond organ was originally sold to churches as a lower-cost alternative to the wind-driven pipe organ, in the 1960s and 1970s, it became a standard keyboard instrument for jazz, blues, rock music and gospel music.
Although many different models of Hammond organs were produced, the Hammond B-3 organ is most well-known. In the 1980s and 1990s, musicians began using electronic and digital devices to imitate the sound of the Hammond, because the vintage Hammond organ is heavy and hard to transport. By the 1990s and 2000s digital signal processing and sampling technologies allowed for better imitation of the original Hammond sound.

Exactly this that I’m playing on the song is a great imitation, not just the organ sound but the rotary speaker as well, better known as Leslie speaker.

(From Wikipedia) The Leslie speaker is a specially constructed amplifier/loudspeaker used to create special audio effects using the Doppler effect. Named after its inventor, Donald Leslie, it is particularly associated with the Hammond organ. The Hammond/Leslie combination is now a ubiquitous element in many genres of music ranging from 1960s organ trio hard bop to the growling, distorted tones of early 1970s acid rock.
