Welcome to my new lesson in the style of Jake E. Lee!
Jake E. Lee is perhaps best known for becoming Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist and playing on the albums 'Bark at the Moon', 1984 and 'The Ultimate Sin', 1986. After departing Ozzy's band, Jake went on to form Badlands, a more blues rock outfit, but it is his work during the Ozzy years that I am using for my inspiration in this lesson!
One thing about Jake's playing that I noticed is using a lot of open strings, not just during solos but also as fills during rhythm parts. Check out the song 'Never' from 'The Ultimate Sin' for some nice examples. Jake also never used a whammy bar so he resorted to using other inventive ways of altering the string's pitch, like using the tuners and bending the guitar neck and bending the strings behind the nut. However, I don't fancy the idea of abusing my guitar to that degree so that side of things you're going to have to investigate for yourself.
