Jazz Fusion Enclosures

This month we are going to take a look at a bebop jazz guitar technique called the enclosures and apply this cool concept to our jazz fusion phrasing.

Let's take a target note and play one note above, one note below and finally the target note. Enclosure notes could be diatonic and/or chromatic notes. For example let's take the C note - we could play Db, B, C or Db, Bb, C or D, B, C or any other combination.

As you may see, when playing enclosures will also add some outside notes and that's the interesting thing. This way we could easily break some linear scales, arpeggios and add tensions in our phrasing.

The lesson is built around the C7 chord and I only use the C Mixolydian mode for soloing (F major scale).
