  • Welcome to my new lesson which is focused on the guitar playing of John Sykes!

"John James Sykes (born 29 July 1959) is an English rock guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter who has played with Streetfighter, Tygers of Pan Tang, John Sloman's Badlands, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, and Blue Murder. Sykes co-wrote the majority of the songs on Whitesnake's 1987 self-titled album with David Coverdale. Sykes is also a successful solo artist." - Wikipedia

John's lead guitar style involves a lot of wide and aggressive vibrato, outrageously wide string bending and furious speed picking runs.

John has played guitar in Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake but it's his work with Blue Murder that's provided the inspiration for this lesson. There's some rhythm guitar which utilises 2 note power chords in a driving riff inspired by the song 'Valley of The Kings'. After a slow build up with the solo, the song kicks into high gear and you get to test your picking skills!

    This lesson will improve:

    -Vibrato
    -Bending
    -Pinch Harmonics
    -Alternate picking speed and stamina

Prepare to have some very sore fingertips whilst learning this lesson. Enjoy!
