  • Hello GMC!

    - We will be working on our funky slap chops. Here we have a Larry Graham style lesson - it's one of frequent requests I got on my board, on making the lesson. In this lesson the focus will be to learn some new slap grooves/licks in style of Larry, that will fit the funky backing settings well - they should open up new ideas for you when improvising your own slap lines.

    - There will be lots of different techniques used in this lesson such as: thumping, plucking, muted thumps/plucks, hammer-ons, pull-offs, double stops, strumming...There will be also some usage of effects on bass!

    - The lesson revolves around the key of Em. I used the E minor scale mostly for composing this groove.

    -Key: Em
    -Tempo: 120 bpm
    -Time signature: 4/4
    -Tuning: standard
    -Difficulty: intermediate

Equipment I used for getting this sound was: Am Fender Jazz Bass deluxe, equal mix of both pickups with added bass and middle on onboard preamp - then going to the nemesis (eden) amp with a 1x15" and flat eq there.

Regarding effects, I used bass distortion and octavers from Guitar Rig 3 to simulate the fuzz and octaver Larry was using at the time.

Feel free to ask me any questions in the lesson's feedback and in my instructor board at the forum.

Enjoy and I hope you'll have a lot of fun learning this song!
