Kristofer Dahl8th October 2018Redpill, Marty purposely plays very off the bet to make it virtually impossible to "count" your way through that section.
You might want to try humming that melody, as that is how Marty often approaches writing his solos.
Not only will you learn an epic melody, but once you nail the timing you will have gained a much more relaxed and loose approach to playing cool lines!
Redpill8th October 2018Wow Daniel, you are an amazing player to be able to pull off this solo so perfectly. My personal guitar goal in life is to be able to play this and I am working at it for 1 year now and still have a long ways to go before I can play it.
Why is the timing of the first few notes so hard for me to get? Walk up on the G string..3rd fret bend and walking up 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th and 10 fret. I find it hard to get this timing. Does anyone have any suggestions?- Slavenko Erazer4th December 2012

Hi friend! Those arpeggios should be played using Sweep Picking technique, are you using this technique? I can help you with some exercises at my personal board if you want. - EllGuitar19th March 2012

yeah, that's my bad...the good thing is that it is a very standard blues lick that doesn't have any weird Marty thing
dude you need to slow down the parts more so we can see what your playing, I had to pause and rewind the vid like a million times and there is no tab below it either to help out. A better view of the picking hand would be nice but not essential other than that its an awesome solo probably in my top five of all time and you nailed it!

Awesome lesson! I think a whole-song lesson would be great for Tornado of Souls as well. The opening is probably one of the greatest rhythm licks of all time.

Hi GMC-ers!
This is a lesson on one of my favorite solos I've ever heard. The solo for "Tornado of souls" by Marty Friedman with the band Megadeth. This song is part of the album "Rust in peace" of 1990.
This solo combines many different techniques like:- Bending
- Legato
- Alternate picking
- Sweep picking
- Speed picking
What's amazing to me in this solo is the overall melodic direction. Marty is able to achieve using unorthodox playing and not really doing what's expected. The Bb (in red) is the leading tone of the scale and is used at the beginning of the solo. But for the most part a natural B minor scale is usedThe F (in red) is the Blue note
