  • Hi GMC-ers! It is the time for some serious shredding solos from the master himself, Marty Friedman.

    When playing, Friedman often uses arpeggiated chords and various customized scales. He also occasionally uses sweep picking. He has a very unorthodox right hand picking technique. The angle in which his hand is clenched goes against the conventional palm mute. He also frequently uses the upstroke as opposed to the downstroke, especially on the high strings (strings B and E). These qualities make Friedman's solos unique and hard to duplicate using an alternate picking approach. ("Marty Friedman" Wikipedia: The Free Encyclopedia)

    The solo is a quite difficult. It contains phrasing only Marty was capable of doing at that time. The B Hirayoshi scale blazes through 3 octaves on 320 BPM, and the solo is flavored by sweeping/arpeggios in Marty style.

    Tuning:
    * D - G - C - F - A - D
    (From thick to thin string)
    * Down a whole (2 frets) step

    Techniques:
    * Bluesy phrasings
    * Staccato
    * Sweeping/arpeggios

    Scales:
    B Hirayoshi

    Have fun!/ Zsolt
