Rhoads Meets EVH

Welcome to my new lesson!

This time, we're imagining what it might sound like if Randy Rhoads jammed over some of Eddie Van Halen's riffs and Eddie jammed over Randy's riffs.

"Randall William "Randy" Rhoads (December 6, 1956 – March 19, 1982) was an American heavy metal guitarist who played with Ozzy Osbourne and Quiet Riot. He died in a plane accident while on tour with Osbourne in Florida in 1982.
Edward Lodewijk "Eddie" Van Halen (born January 26, 1955 in Nijmegen) is a Dutch-born American musician, songwriter and producer. He is best known as the lead guitarist, keyboardist and co-founder of the hard rock band Van Halen." - Wikipedia

Both guitarists are known for tapping, legato and occasional bursts of alternate picking. Randy had a hint of classical music in his phrasing and tended to use the whammy bar for downward scoops and dive bombs predominantly.

Eddie used tapping much more in his playing and made it much more of a feature of his style.
His whammy bar use was also more rhythmical and part of his phrasing.

Both guitarists used Marshalls with Randy favouring Jackson guitars and Eddie favouring his home built 'Frankenstein' Strat before moving onto Ernie Ball Musicman and then Peavey Wolfgang guitars.
