  • Hi GMC-ers! In this lesson I'll show you the main guitar theme and solo of the song, "Jump". This in my opinion is one of the most famous Van Halen songs.

    In the beginning there's a bluesy part in a regular blues scale which continues, but focus on the artificial harmonics. Then there is a legendary Van Halen tapping part, followed by an arpeggio and legato run.

    I love the diversity in his playing. Also in this short solo he used a lot of different technical elements such as tapping, legato, artificial harmonics, arpeggios and bluesy sections.

    Techniques:
    * Bends
    * Slides
    * Tapping
    * Legato
    * Hammer-ons
    * Pull-offs

    Song Structure:
    * Verse Part 1 : Bars 1-4
    * Verse Part 2
    * Chorus
    * Solo
