Great lesson!
One tiny remark. I would advise peopel to write down the places of the colored cables before disconnecting them. I for one am someone allways getting myself in trouble forgetting that

This seems like a good time to put in shielding and was wondering how hard it is to do that. Whether I should use the paint or tape and what the differences would be. Any ideas?

I would like to know a little more about the humbucker/single coil blending with the "tone control pot". What kind of different tones you get with this wiring. It would be nice if you could record the sound with different settings.

I learned a lot from this one Marcus, much needed man, and I will try to learn to solder like you! It is a bit hard for me to do such a neat soldering job, I should practice a bit!
Your english is very fluent in these videos, there are no crossfades, so I think this tutorial is definitely a keeper in my bookmarks!

Oxac31st January 2009Usefull lesson Marcus, really cool of you to do one like this. A tip though, when you put in the pickups, put a little tape on one of the cables. That way you can put them in at the same time, a little time saver
Means more practise time.

Yup, thats how I got to know about them. I really liked their sound and since I was not really happy with the Dimarzios that have been in this Les Paul I thought it might be a good idea to check them out, so far I am very happy with the result.

Thanks everybody. And to everybody that feels like trying it, don't be scared, it is not that hard (as you can soldering is the hardest part for me
) Just make sure you prepare everything in advance and pay attention to the connection sheet that comes with pickups, there you should find all the information about what cable is ground or hot, or what cables might have to be connected.
@ Zakk: Those are the Alnico II Pro pickups, so far the only Duncan pickup I ever had was the Jeff Beck model which I didn't really like, but those ones are very nice.

Hi everybody, for todays lesson we don't need any scales, chords, rhythms or stuff like this, all we need is a guitar, some tools, some pickups and the will to put those new pickups into our guitar.
If you are about to change pickups for the first time you might be a bit nervous about this, at least I was when I opened one of my guitars for the first time, but actually it is a rather simple process. There are some basic things you should pay attention to though: Collect all the tools that you need before you start, like this you don't have to stop in the middle and look for things. It is also recommended to keep all the little screws from your guitar at a safe place, otherwise you might lose them easily and it is really no fun to look for such small things. Also keep in mind you will need a new set of strings after you changed the pickups, so make sure you still have a set at hand.
It might be a good idea to watch this whole lesson at least once before you start, like this you get an idea about what you have to do and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
