Funk Rock Lesson

Hi GMC! Today I bring to you one of my compositions in the style of funk – rock. In this song I use basically two modes that we were study in the last lessons.

In the beginning of the song I use the Dorian mode in Am, then the mixolydian mode in D7 and Lydian b7. We will see the mode Lydian b7 in other lesson but now the only that I will say is that this mode use in substitute dominant.

In this song I use the melody harmonized with octaves. (This reminds me of the Genius of the guitar Wes Montgomery)

In this case I use a blues structure. In the first bar I play Am Dorian, then in the next bar D Mixolydian, the next to bars Am Dorian, then two bars of D Mixolydian, two more bars of Am Dorian and then F Lydian b7, E Mixolydian, Db Lydian b7 and D Mixolydian.

A, B, C, D, E, F#, G, A

The Mixolydian mode is composing by the root, major second, major third, just fourth, just fifth, major sixth and minor seventh.

D, E, F#, G, A, B, C, D

The Dorian mode is composed by the root, major second, minor third, perfect fourth, perfect fifth, major sixth and minor seventh.
