Hi GMC, today we will do a small funky fusion solo lesson. This lesson will be first in a row of three funky fusion solo lessons, each on higher level than the lessson before. This lesson will be the easiest one for those of you who want to learn couple of cool sounding funky, bluesy fusion licks and insert them into your own lick vocabulary.
We will do this solo over a very simple backing track that has only one chord and that is Adominant chord, or A7. Although this chord is only one, there are actually a lot of things that you can do over it using several different scales. In order to sound jazzy we will use neighbour notes and mix several pentatonic scales that can be found within D major key. If you aren’t too keen on analyzing the scales, don’t worry, all of these scales share very similar notes, so soloing will be a breeze.
In this solo the focus is on using arpeggiated legato lines, vibrato and bends to create a nice balanced improvisation.
This lesson contains:
- funky, bluesy, jazzy licks
- legato licks
- vibrato licks
- phrasing effects
Have fun! :)
A Dorian
