Hello GMC!
Welcome to another Interval Series lesson. This time we are covering Octave.
Octave is extremly important interval for couple of reasons.
1) When we play a scale, we have to start and end on the exact same pitch higher or lower. Thats what Octave is!
2) All the notes in music repeat after you reach octave of certain note!
3) We can use this interval as powerful arranging tool ! (Two voices or different instrumentation can play same melody in different octaves).
Now little bit about octave...
Distance between two notes that has 6 whole steps is known as Octave.
My 2nd lesson for GMC was in style of Wes Montgomery. If you haven't checked that lesson yes, I suggest you do by visiting link HERE
This lesson is very closely related to what we are covering today. Now you have two lessons that you can study with Octave interval.
About backing track and scales used :
- Backing track was in 4/4 time signature at 128bpm
- Harmony was mostly in E natural minor (or relative G major in B section)
- Whenever B7 chord happened, we switched to E harmonic minor (modal interchange).
- For soloing you can use E natural and harmonic minor.
I suggest you check out Spoken Video (Video 1) for more details and tips regarding sound and technique used in this lesson.
The equipment I used was custom built guitar through POD X3 Live into Nuendo. Effect I used was Treadplate (modified with different reverb).
Feel free to ask me any questions and leave feedback for the lesson. I hope to hear some REC recordings of this one in future.
See you in my next lesson, until then practice this one and have fun!
