  • Melody is one of the most important aspects of music. Without it, the listener could not relate with what you are playing and your leads would sound like an ongoing dexterity exercise without any purpose. In today's lesson we'll explore some melodic ideas over an E minor backing track that should help you develop an ear for melodic phrasing.

Let's take a look at the chord progression we'll be playing over:
    Em - - -
    C - - -
    Em - - -
    C - - -
    Am Bm C -
    Am Bm D -
    Em

The whole chord progression can be played with an E natural minor scale. We can also of course use an E minor pentatonic scale as its notes are extracted from an E minor scale.

As always with this type of lesson, don't just memorize it for the only sake of learning a new piece of music but spend time developing these ideas making them personal to you and use them in your music.

    Practice well!
