Guthrie Govan is one of today's most influential guitar players. His mind blowing technique and amazing phrasing are worth studying for anyone serious about mastering his instruments. In today's lesson we'll study an improvisation in the style of the master.
The backing track is based on the following simple chord progression: Cm Ab/G7
We'll be able to use a C minor pentatonic scale through the track. In order to sound a bit more interesting, we'll add a few chromatic notes here and there adding to the rhythm feel of the improvised lines.
As always with this kind of lesson, make sure to practice slowly and to recycle these licks in your own music. Make sure to try the licks in different keys too in order to be able to use them in any situation.
Practice hard and have fun!
